Inchies

I am exploring all sorts of new things this year and these Inchies have to be one of the most fun projects so far. I became interested a while back when I had read an article by Normajean Brevik in Quilting Arts magazine and then came the new, hot off the press, book by Nadine Ruggles titled Inchie Quilts.................so okay, I just had to give em a go.
I started with a few scraps, layered with batting and backing and by gathering up a bunch of supplies for I already had on hand to use as embellishment. Now even though it seems that this would be just an oh so simple a project to tackle, I have to say that it can actually be kind of intimidating to try to make something interesting out of one inch of real estate. But once you get going they are really quite addictive and the ideas are now flowing. I rubber stamped, painted, foiled, used bits of old jewelry and even some postage stamps.
What will I do with these? Well possibly a large quilt sometime in the future using many, many inchies or perhaps some fellow guild members would be interested in an inchie exchange.......who knows, but I must make more of them......lots and lots more.
Click on the images if you'd like a close up look at these, now you may say to yourself, hey what gives, these are not all one inch in size................well yes some are one inch and some are what Normajean Brevik calls Plus size inchies while others are Super sized ;-) and yes there are some selvage inchies in there as well.

I saw that book on her blog and I never really thought that the quilts were an inch. I just thought that they were small. I saw this one that looked like it was about 10" square and now after seeing your inchies I realize the actual size. It looks like a great way to use all those one of a kind buttons and do-dads that we seem to accumulate. Yours are very creative. I think that I might order her book and play around.

Inches are so much fun! You can use eyelets on them also and add to a charm bracelet. I have one that I beaded and hooked to one of my purses. Have fun!

Nice inchies! I saw them on the blog and wondered about trying some this summer! Watch my blog and maybe some will appear there too.

Oh, that is so creative! I love your inchies, and the swirls and the junk yard art. I guess we are "on the same page!"

I can see why these could be addictive. . . they look like loads of fun! I thought the article in Quilting Arts was fun at the time, but have never gotten around to trying this. I may have to fit this into my schedule! (like I need one more thing to do, but still...)

Fabulous Inchies Jill! They are addicting, aren't they? ;-) Can't wait to see what you do with them, though I love them just arranged as they are in the pics.

Inchies and oversized inchies seem like a fun way for me to "break into" using embellishments using the decorative stitches on my machine. I've just made my first small selvage project, and that was fun too. Thanks for posting your inchies.

What a cool way to try out new techniques! These would make such an awesome wallhanging or something!
