Earlier in the year, I appliqued a block called "Miss Kelly" designed by Erin Russek. I have decided to finish it in a "Round Robin" sort of fashion. I wanted to start by designing an applique border for this piece, first I scanned a few my own flowers/buds and leaves that I planned to work with. After a little tweaking on the computer, I printed out several pages of these elements (actual size) in greyscale. Now I could cut them up and start arranging, a little dab of LAPEL stick ( I love this product) holds it all in place as I play to find a layout I like. As an added bonus, the paper version can be used as my placement template.........its just too easy!!!
Then I got busy making the required number of pieces in fabric using my preferred method (freezer paper and gluestick) you can read an earlier post that describes this method here
So......you want to know about the giveaway?.....have you seen LAPEL stick for sale at your local quilt shop? Have you tried it yet? They are terrific and have many uses............want a chance to win one? Leslie Durand, Sales and Marketing Director for LAPEL Stick contacted me yesterday and generously offered to let me host a giveaway. She has told me I can pick 2 winners, so....... just leave me a comment in this post. I'll post the winners Monday Dec 5th. and Leslie will send you your very own LAPEL stick......keep it for yourself or use it as a stocking stuffer

The borders match your applique so beautifully ...you have captured me again with your work.
Once again, you've pushed the boundaries and discovered something wonderful. I can't wait to see this finished. Are your applique fabrics batiks? The colors are luscious.

Well I'd never heard of lapel stick before and checked out the site and yes I'd LOVE to have one. I do a lot of fiber art and I think this would be great.
Love your border - not sure I have the patience to do the appliqué like that now, but would love to try it someday.
I think I remember you mentioning this glue stick but I forgot (already!)...go figure! If I was lucky enough to win, at least I would have it to try! Your piece is BEAUTIFUL (as usual!). Clever process also.

lovely applique, Jill! I'd love to try the lapel stick because I'm tired of being poked by the pins holding my applique pieces in place. thanks for the chance.
Wonderful quilt and applique!!! I love the fact you went beyond the original and 'made it your own'. Can't wait to see the finished quilt!!! The LABEL product sounds like something I could use. I also love to applique', but have never used a product like the one you are giving away.
I really like the applique border you added. Nice craftyness! We don't have Lapel Stick here in the Netherlands, at least not by that name but i would love to try it if i could.
I'm not home at the moment.... but on the way... I picked up some new fabrics, and will be ready to start something new soon. A LAPEL stick would certainly help!

I've been searching for inspiration on designing an applique border for a double wedding ring quilt. You post has given me some great ideas! I will also be using motifs from Erin's designs. I will definitely be photocopying bits and pieces to play with. Thanks!
I was very interested in your designing method for you border. I have my World of Blossoms applique blocks (20 hand appliqued) I need to design a border (well setting as well). This will help me, thanks for sharing. I'll start as soon as I get over this stumpness of not knowing where to start.
A como ficarei contente de ganhar, quero experimentar. beijos liége
