Last Friday, I had the opportunity to spend the day in a Crazy Quilt workshop with Bev White. Bev is truly a gifted artist with a generous spirit, wonderful sense of humour and is a tremendous source of inspiration. Still, she managed to keep us on task and by the end of the day I had 4 triangles stitched and ready for embellishment.
I decided to pair them up with that discharged Moth I did earlier. So I added a bit of fabric to make everything meet up and intend to display this one on point.I chose to do this in a black/white/grey pallet but quickly began to realize that my stitches don't really stand out. It seems that it all appears to be part of the fabric prints. Here are some close ups of some of the hand stitching.
This webThis SpiderThis winged creature was created by taking a piece of lace, cutting it up and re-arranging.
Do you see what I see? I see a great similarity between crazy quilts and the newest craze of Zentangles, do you?
Still lots to be done to this piece.

Yep, you hit that spot on. There is a lot of similar territory.
Have you considered adding just a touch of color here or there to make some of the stitches pop? I love the black and white, but I also see what you mean that the stitching sort of blends with the fabrics.
On the other hand....maybe that is a good thing as it makes the work different.
XXOO~~

I love just the black and white. It also depends what you're going to do with it?
I love all the bugs especially the spiders web.
I think it looks pretty cool. The possibilities are endless. I think I need to find that book.
Lovely, I just hope you hang it in a place where the work can be examined close up.
Your doodles remind me so much of the zentangles....and I enjoy looking at them all so much. Heck I might even try it one day!
Happy Sewing
What a wonderful way to handle a traditional process and make it very contemporary. I love the stitching. Sounds like you had an incredible time.
Will you frame this piece? It is different and so unlike anything I would attempt to do. But this is what I love about coming to your blog Jill...you are an artist!
So very cool! I love the black and white!! And you are right..there is similarity between crazy quilting and zentangles! Go figure!
I love it in black and white -- it's crazy quilting with YOUR signature on it. The touches you gave it are just what a crazy quilt needs to make it modern. Amazing creativity!

Your crazy quilt piece is stunning. I love the black, grey and whites with your moth center and front. Your embroidery and stitching is exquisite however I agree it is blending with the fabrics. In person I can imagine this entire piece is just amazing. Happy stitching...
amazing work! you certainly have your own style, I love it! I would love to see how it would look if all the stitches were done in a red or neon green, but even so it is perfect the way it is!
Oh I love what you have done. Mixing in your drawing is wonderful. The stitching looks fantastic. I'm not a big hand sewer but really appreciate it. Love the block and the lace moth is perfect.
Very cool! It's one of those pieces that is striking from far away, and when you get up close you start ooohing and aahhhing because the detail is amazing! It's a theme I've thought about a lot over the years in my mothering...you spend so much time and effort, and your work is not immediately visible, but start a conversation with my kids (your quilts) and you can see all of that investment!!!
