I visited the Imadon street painting festival that was going on this weekend. Can you imagine doing all that work only to have it disappear within a few days (sooner if rains are heavy)? The artist's spend several days in awkward positions, on hard asphalt, under the hot sun as they produce incredible works with simple chalk pastels.......I just HAD to buy some for myself :-)
I only took photos of this artist's work, with her permission, of course. Axl T. Ernst was the feature artist this year.........can you see why? You can visit her web site here and to see more photos of this work in progress, go to her blog here
It really is quite amazing to see what can be achieved on such an unforgiving surface, the work is so fabulous you may not even notice the patched cracks in the asphalt or the parking spot lines.
I could not resist a photo of the state her shoes were in as she neared the completion of the festival.

such stunning art work - I have to do a pencil sketch and erase and redraw - it's hard to imagine just drawing away with just your mind as your reference - just wonderful
Amazing talent. Thanks for sharing!
Stunning! And have you ever seen that guy that does the street art that is kinda 3-D-ish? It makes you think you are seeing real depth or holes in the middle of the street! You have to view it at a certain angle, but I love that type of stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I have seen some very incredible art done on the asphalt or sidewalks and I am always amazed. All from chalk! I hope you will not be crawling around on the streets painting with your new chalks. :o) I do hope this artist isn't so poor she only has these shoes. Sunny Summer Smiles...
How lovely.
So have you changed your driveway into a work of art?
Happy summer
Oh my goodness! That is amazing...I would love to see that! But it makes me feel sick to my stomach that it is so temporary...I need to think about that!
Can't wait to see what YOU'LL do with those chalks -- I can only imagine the artistry that awaits. thanks for sharing these photos -- sidewalk artists always amaze me.
