I ran into a small problem as I worked on this piece. From the sketch I had done previously, I began inking and painting this red trillium.
I always like my work to be as neat and tidy as possible, so I generally tape the borders of my painting to give a nice clean edge. The problem?.....because I had not doubled checked the measured area when I added my name, I found that the mat I had chosen, completely hid my signature.
In the past, I have been pretty lax about signing and dating my work, I am trying to break that habit, I really did like this mat combo, so I simply signed again......no one likely would have known without peeking under the mat.
This was being "gifted" so I did not have a lot of time to come up with a different solution.

wonderful Jill!!
I really love the overlapping petals, the red over the green. I loved seeing the picture framed and ready to go too.
Beautiful, Jill. Keep the idea about prints in the back of your mind!!!
This piece is absolutely stunning! I love how your signature is part of the leaf. It's subtle but still noticeable. You're right to make sure that your work is signed. We should all get in the habit of doing it.
It is so gorgeous. Love where your signature decided to make it's signature. ;) Fabulous!
Boy, this came out pretty, Jill -- you found the perfect solution and a great combination for the matting. Can't wait to hear how your gift was received -- I'll bet they loved it!

Beautiful...just beautiful......
Lovely!! Growing up in New York we had white trillium in the back woods, never have seen red, but I love your painting of this one.
I love where your signature ended up. Beautiful painting
